The agency that has struggled to bring high-paying, high-skills jobs to Flagstaff has decided instead to focus on the gap in low-skilled workers for entry-level jobs.
The Greater Flagstaff Economic Council is set to release a report that says qualified nurse assistants, production workers, truck drivers and others in jobs that pay relatively well but do not require a college degree are in short supply.
The reasons include inadequate high school preparation, according to the report, along with an outmigration of better-qualified young college graduates because of low pay and the high cost of housing.
