The highway through Oak Creek Canyon has been closed because portions of the roadway reportedly have been damaged by erosion.

The closure of Arizona 89-A is between Sedona and Forest Highlands, near Flagstaff.

Last summer’s Brins fire above the canyon burned away vegetation and made the ground suspectible to rock- and mudslides.

Crews have been working to shore up those areas.

A-DOT has crews are evaluating the situation and expect the scenic highway to remain closed all day.

Oak Creek Canyon residents are being told to enter the canyon from the Sedona side. Road blocks have been set up at each end of the canyon.
