FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (February 28, 2008) - David Schlosser, a candidate for
mayor of Flagstaff, Ariz., today announced that he would dedicate most of
the recent raise in the mayor’s salary to local philanthropic causes.

“I opposed increasing the mayor’s salary, and I put my money where my mouth
is,” Schlosser said.  “If elected, I will donate the difference between the
city council and mayor salaries to local charities that help address our
community’s most urgent needs, including affordable housing, workforce and
economic development, public safety, and education.”

In 2007, the Flagstaff City Council voted to increase the mayor’s annual
salary from $18,000 to $36,000.  Council member also voted to increase
council members’ salaries from $12,000 to $24,000.  Serving members of the
council are not eligible to receive salary increases on which they vote
until after they are re-elected.

“I believe that the mayor and council must work together and work hard to
justify their salaries through their performance for our community,”
Schlosser said.  “Until we achieve the city’s mission to provide affordable
housing, safe neighborhoods, and good jobs to all our citizens, I will
dedicate a third of my salary to helping achieve those goals.”
