Ice Jacks Complete Two Huge Weekends

The NAU Ice Jacks have had some great weekends in the past but none as big as last two weekends. The DII team won two decisive games vs. visiting Cal State Fullerton 12-1 and 10-5 at Jay Lively Ice Arena. That moved the DII record to 9-3 which was good enough to get NAU DII ranked 10th in the Pacific Region of ACHA. The top 10 teams qualify for regionals in Greely, Colorado at the end of the season.

If that wasn’t enough the NAU DIII Green Team blasted DII Fort Lewis College 8-2 and 10-2 in Durango, Colorado. Those two wins moved the Green Team to 3-3 for the season. NAU DIII will travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico this weekend to face the #9 ranked University of New Mexico. The Green Team currently moved from # 15 to #13 in the Pacific Region DIII.

The following weekend the Ice Jacks Division II team traveled to San Jose, California to play in the San Jose Classic. NAU played a very tough Texas Tech team on Thursday night and won the game convincingly 7-2. Sophomore Jon Ellis started the Jacks rolling with two goals in the first period. The team pressed on with goals from Freshman Nick Short, Freshman Taylor Dustin and Senior Dillon Shaffer. NAU dominated Utah Valley on Friday 9-1. The Ice Jacks skated the short handed team for three periods. This set up the show down between the two top teams #8 San Jose State and #10 NAU.

San Jose State scored first even though the Ice Jacks dominated the first period. Less than two minutes later Junior Tucker Braund scored a huge goal to tie the game. That was followed by a beautiful tic-tac-toe goal on great passes by freshman Zach Richards to Dillon Shaffer to sophomore Rocky DeAngelo who finished with the goal. DeAngelo scored his second goal of the game into an empty net late in the third period. That moves the NAU DII record to 12-3 for the season.
