YCSO rescues 15-year-old boy who spent night on Capital Butte

A 15-year-old boy was rescued from the south aspect of Capitol Butte aka Thunder Mountain — which is located immediately north of Sedona city limits — by the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team Back Country Unit aided by a DPS Ranger Helicopter on Thursday, Jan. 11, at approximately 7:45 a.m.

The teen left home alone the day prior, Wednesday, Jan. 10, at approximately 9 a.m., wearing only a small backpack with minimal water and food, leggings, shorts a hooded sweater, baseball cap and running shoes. His intention was to summit Capitol Butte, a long-time goal.
